The product problem

Why Cliproom exists.

Short-form teams often trade shared logins, compressed chat attachments, crowded camera rolls, and fragmented review notes for speed. Cliproom is being built around a cleaner chain of custody: capture pristine footage, keep the brief beside it, and move every version through one project.

What the product does

The useful parts, stated plainly.

These capabilities are grounded in the project’s README, metadata, source structure, and checked-in product documentation.

01

Capture in segments

Record HEVC clips with tap or hold controls, a teleprompter, countdown, camera controls, and an editable clip tray.

02

Keep originals pristine

Each clip retains a full-quality original alongside a smaller collaboration proxy and thumbnail.

03

Hand off a real brief

Projects carry a brief, due date, tone, roles, activity, invite links, and a status from filming through approval.

04

Edit non-destructively

Trim, split, reorder, caption, layer, animate, and export while the source media remains unchanged.

05

Review in context

Timestamped comments seek to the exact moment, can be resolved, and lead into approval and full-quality export.

06

Record the Mac

The macOS app captures a display, app window, custom area, system audio, microphone, or camera into the same library.

Designed for

People with a specific job to do.

  • Creators working with an editor
  • Small content teams
  • Product demos and launch videos
  • Social-first production workflows
Product choices

What makes it distinctly Orion.

  • Guest workspaces remain local and can migrate into an account later.
  • Owner, editor, and viewer roles separate capture from post-production access.
  • The macOS timeline uses seven purposeful lanes rather than hiding every edit in a single flattened movie.

Why automatic polish starts with structured capture

Question
What has to be preserved during screen recording so automatic zooms, cursor cleanup, presenter layouts, and privacy masks remain editable?
Method
Cliproom compared focused capture, automatic presentation, editorial cleanup, and delivery patterns, then mapped them against the working ScreenCaptureKit and AVFoundation baseline.
Key finding
A flattened movie is an architectural dead end for the signature experience. Screen, camera, microphone, system audio, cursor events, and timeline markers need a shared clock but separate source tracks.
Limitation
The current recorder works for display, window, region, system audio, microphone, and camera capture, but structured multi-source writing and event metadata are planned rather than shipped.
Product implication
The product roadmap puts the structured recorder before automatic zooms and presentation polish, while keeping every transformation non-destructive.

One preview plan for editing and export

Question
How can a creator-focused editor stay approachable without allowing the preview and final render to disagree?
Method
The macOS feature study compared Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut Pro, and DaVinci Resolve, then defined a smaller track model and shared composition plan.
Key finding
A continuous primary story track plus bounded overlay, text, caption, and audio lanes covers the core workflow without copying a full broadcast editor.
Limitation
Advanced trim modes, waveforms, color controls, multicam, and interchange formats remain roadmap items.
Product implication
Preview and export consume the same composition instructions, reducing drift between what an editor arranges and what the app renders.
